Winston (Poems inspired by the novel "1984", part 1)

Winston

Inspired by the novel 1984 by George Orwell

There’s no meaning, there’s no matter.
(Only for the thought police.)
And with every single letter
On the page, it won’t be better –
We’ll resemble refugees.
Treated, threatened for this treason,
Just how stubborn we could be.
There’s no meaning, there’s no reason;
Freedom will be slavery.
As I’m sitting, as I’m writing,
I know nothing will turn out
To be epic or inciting –
We will vanish from the lighting
In the end, what’s this about?
There is no use for demonstration,
The faith is set, the deed is done.
I’m stuck in constant hesitation
Living in an ultra-nation;
I can’t speak up, I can’t run.
